Disaster Movie

Rating: 4 Stars

I have to say that this was much better than Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans. It was much more amusing and a lot better than I expected. Spoofing Indian Jones, Hellboy, Iron Man, the Hulk, Head-On (you know that "apply directly to your forehead" comerical), Batman, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Love Guru, and dating Matt Damon. It's fun to watch if you don't mind spoofs. Definitely stay away if you hate spoofs. But nothing will ever live up to the Scary Movies, which I guess, aren't so scary really.

Star Wars Clone Wars

Rating: Photobucket

Stars Wars: The Clone Wars is probably the worst Star Wars movie ever. I felt like someone had wrote a FanFiction that people decided to make into a movie.

It was disappointing. I expected better from a Star Wars movie. And what's up without John Williams soundtrack? Watching it was painful when "master" was uttered every other line. Maybe Anakin Skywalker was slightly amusing with his sarcasm, but that's about it.

I personally liked how Rex had that Australian accent. The clone troopers were interesting, yet the droids were highly annoying with their stupidness.

Perhaps this is good to entertain little kids. But it was amazingly bad that it was amusing, but really, it's just something that should have been put on TV. Not worth all the popcorn, soda, and ticket prices.

Voxtrot

Rating: Photobucket

Voxtrot is one of those really great not yet quite discovered bands. They have their self titled album along with two EPs called Your Biggest Fan EP and Raised By Wolves EP. It's actually probably one of the best undiscovered bands out there and is also considered Indie Rock because the man who put that band together and also lead singer is Indian.

This band hails from Austin, Texas with lyrics that have real meaning and have to do with more than love and heartbreak. It's not your typical band and if they can get more noticed, they might just be the next big thing.

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

Rating: Four Stars

Upon the finishing of this book of genius, the first few chapters have already opened my eyes to atheism and how much good it would do. Richard Dawkins really knows how to grab the reader and tell them that religion is doing more destruction than good. He even goes on to tell the reader about being an atheist.

The book is probably one of the best non-fiction books I have read. It's very different and possible controversal, but also interesting and eye opening if you're willing to be open minded. While all you religious freaks oppose this book, it's really only that religion is corrupting our society. Richard Dawkins proves that very well.

Of course it is cleared up from the beginning that God cannot possibly exist for there is no scientific evidence or logical or rational proof. The Bible and all the other holy scriptures are pure fiction because those accounts of the scribes and writers are, alas, not accurate and biased on the religious believers minds.

So please, pick up the book and read it.

Bottom Line: I don't care what religion you are!!! Read it because it was totally worth all the money I was supposed to use to buy dinner with.

The Dark Knight

Rating: Four Stars

If it weren't for Heath Ledger, I'd let the rating slide to three stars because over all, Aaron Eckhart and Christian Bale aren't exactly the best actors for this movie, but they do well enough to keep us entertained. Michael Caine again does a wonderful job, even though small, as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's reliable butler. Morgan Freeman, another small part, pretty much does his job well too.

The Dark Knight might be one of the best summer movies thanks to Heath Ledger. If another actor had played the Joker, the movie might not have done as well. There were parts I could have done without, and Batman in Hong Kong was almost hilarious and taken to a point where it wasn't serious anymore.

Overall, if it weren't for the action, Ledger, the whole Harvey Dent fiasco, and the interesting story line, this movie would be a disaster because of its other poor choices for actors to play its well planned characters.

My Brother's Keeper by Patricia McCormick

Rating: 3 Stars

Okay, this isn't the best book ever, but for Patricia McCormick's second book, it's decent and an interesting read. I feel that there needs to be more development, and I think that's McCormick's flaws in this book and also a book she wrote titled Cut. I believe McCormick is still learning the ropes to writing novels, and she's on the way. I'm confident if she writes another book, it will be better than My Brother's Keeper and Cut.

This book is about a boy who is covering up his brother's drug abuse. It could be a lot better if there had been more development, like I said before. It lacks a lot of stuff. I feel like I could go and build off of what she already wrote.

But the story plot is interesting, and realistic enough to keep a reader interested. It's a quick read, only took me a couple of hours. If you like Cut, then you'll enjoy this.

Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Rating: 3 Stars

The plot itself is interesting. A group of highschoolers going to an abandoned asylum in Danvers, MA. It's supposedly haunted and one of the kids wants to make a documentary before the place is demolished. They end up growing closer to each other, forming new relationships and what now.

The writing is excellent with the different point of views of each of the main characters. While there are swear words, they come in at just the perfect time, adding that sense of realistic teenage rebel. There are a couple of inconsistencies, but they are not important as the plot comes to a pretty good ending, leaving a mystery like Danvers State Hospital (the asylum) itself.

WALL-E

Rating: Photobucket
Pixar and its creators have outdone themselves again. WALL-E which seems like just another animated kids movie actually sends out a very good message that adults and teens will understand: We must save our world and that love is important no matter what.

So how can robots teach us love? Well, you go and watch the movie yourself because I'm not giving anything else away.

Bottom Line: It's worth it if you don't mind sitting in a theater with little kids. It's really interesting and Pixar has done a wonderful job with the graphics and music.

Guitar Hero: On Tour (DS)

Rating: 3 Stars

It is not recommended you expect much from this game. The graphics are crappy and the controls are very bulky, but the song selection is great ranging from No Doubt to Daughtry, which is pretty awsome to some extent. While there may be only four button colors, the game is definitely harder than you think it is. I can beat expert on the regular Guitar Hero games and this little DS version gave me some difficulty.

If you're interested like me, you should buy it because it's fun to tinker with and wonder how you can be so stumped by what should be easy.

Of course, if you totally think it's not worth it and want to stick to the life size version of Guitar Hero, then this is not the game for you.

Bottom Line: If you're interested, buy it. If you don't think it's worth it, then don't buy it.

Viva la Vida Coldplay CD

Rating: Photobucket

What more can you expect from Coldplay? It's probably one of their best CDs yet. It's fun to ponder the lyrics and also easy to listen to. While it's not a sing-along CD, you definitely have to love music that you really enjoy listening too and not having the urge to sing along (unless it's the song Viva la Vida which as been on the radio).

So it's worth it to buy it. Definitely something you can list to over and over again. I listen to it to fall asleep. Helps a lot since I'm not a good sleeper.

Rockband Wii

Rating: Four Stars

Unlike the new Aerosmith Guitar Hero game, Rockband has started a new interest in the musical gaming world. Rockband for the Wii was very enjoyable to play with a good balance or older and newer songs along with the different genres of music that Guitar Hero tends to lack a lot of the time.

While the guitar is not as well developed as Guitar Hero, the drums is definitely a plus with the interesting patterns. The singing is also an interesting feature that could probably be further enhanced in the future.

Rockband was worth every penny I had, unlike the disappointing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Wii

Rating: Photobucket

I am actually very disappointed in this game. It doesn't live up to its name. When I purchased it today, I was excited, ready to have a challenge of new and interesting songs. Yet, even on hard, the songs were not challenging and I felt like a lot of the songs had gaps between note streaks and it was a little boring. I don't know if it's just me, but I felt that there was a detachment.

Don't get me wrong, Aerosmith is a great band, but this Guitar Hero game is not worth it.

The Incredible Hulk

Photobucket

Rating: Four Stars

*Spoiler warning!

The title speaks for itself. The Hulk was incredible in the movie. This was definitely better than the 2003 Hulk movie. I just saw it with my boyfriend tonight. There was a lot of action, which kept the interest for the whole movie.

Tony stark was definitely a surprise at the end...which means there's another Hulk movie down the road in the future!

"Viva la Vida" by Coldplay

Rating: Four Stars

The newly released single by Coldplay, "Viva la Vida" has a chorus that goes like this:

"I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word...
But that was when I ruled the world"

*Just a note, I'm not responsible if these part of the lyrics are inccorect...since the CD has not been released yet, I can only check with lyrics websites. I'm sorry if there's any*

Well, the whole song has a lot of meaning. You can think about yesterday and today and see how a lot of it was the same. Even thousands of years ago, while problems might have been more simple, we suffer problems today that branch off of problems like of those many years ago.

The song can teach us something and it's got a catchy tune if you're not looking for something like rock. You know, that's Coldplay for you. A very interesting song off their album that's soon to be released in June, also titled Viva la Vida.

Bottom Line: While you can only get it off iTunes and other MP3 sellers online (perhaps an illegal download which I don't reccomend), it's worth buying unless you're waiting for the CD. I believe purchasing the pre-order of the CD on iTunes will also give you the single and the rest of the CD will download once available.

The Number 23

The Number 23

Rating: 3 Stars

Jim Carrey gives a worthy performance as not being funny in the movie. The plot is three fourths developed and lacks some. The whole story is very interesting and the numerology can be find to toy with. Perhaps some things in the movie could have been developed better and it's not all that worth buying, but renting I do suggest if you'd like to see Carrey do a more serious role.

Bottom Line: Well, the review above was pretty short, but rent it, don't buy. Beware of the blood and sexual scenes.

I Am Legend

I Am Legend DVD

Rating: 3 Stars
DVD Rating: 3 Stars

*Spoilers

I Am Legend, movie starring Will Smith, about the "last man on earth". Perhaps he is the last man in New York City, but on earth, no. It's entertaining with the hardships he has to suffer after losing everything so close and dear to him. Very different from the book and possible better because it's more modern.

Will Smith does a wonderful job, and there are small quirky details that you just gotta love like the part when he can recite a whole chunk of the Shrek movie. If the movie had been longer, perhaps plot development could be better.

The alternate ending on the DVD is much more interesting that quickly makes a touching scene and makes Robert Neville come out alive, unlike the original version when he killed himself to save Ethan and Montez. That's what makes the DVD better.

Bottom Line: Worthwhile if you don't mind blood and death. Can be disturbing at times, but there's some meaning behind it like what if something like that happened to us in the future? Perhaps we can learn.

Percy Jackson: The Battle of the Labyrinth

click to add titleThe Battle of the Labyrinth

Rating: Four Stars

*Warning...SPOILERS!

Perhaps it does deserve a better rating, but I was totally holding out for more to happen between Percy and Annabeth. She does kiss Percy, so I guess that will be good enough until the next and final book.

Rick Riordan is able to get his humor and action in, like always. This book is not to disappoint except for the lack of having Percy and Annabeth become more intimate. Other than that, there's nothing you could ask for more about this book. While some things may seem to annoy you, in the end, everything turns out okay. Certain characters and events if you know what I mean.

Bottom Line: It probaly deserves an 8/10, but again like I said, I was so hoping Percy and Annabeth would have more than one kiss. Humor, adventure, and thrill are all here. So in other words, it's definitely worth reading.

The Comeback Season

The Comeback Season by Jennifer E. Smith

Rating: Photobucket

The Comeback Season by Jennifer E. Smith is the most amazing book ever written. It is my now standing favorite with its combination of baseball, love, passion, friendship, and a snap of reality to tell us not all stories end happily, but with a sense of accomplishment and that there's bright side to everything. Also it gives a sense that memory is very important.

It's a must read for baseball fans, no matter what team, you can appreciate what the main character, Ryan Walsh, and her boyfriend Nick with something that he has that could tear them apart. All in all, it's a romance with a hint of humor and a snap of reality. Just a note, they are Chicago Cubs fans with big hearts.

Bottom Line: Read it! Understand that not everything ends happily. Best book ever. It's Jennifer E. Smith's first book and it is the best ever. Love, romance, passion, baseball, and reality all packed into one packed, easy flowing book.

The 80th Oscars

Rating: Photobucket

Hosted by Jon Stewart? The hell with him! I have to say I was not impressed or pleased at all, but he did entertain somewhat. The winners were somewhat predicatable, the speeches were too long or too short, the commercials were dumb, and there were points where I was sort of bored because nothing seems to change. It doesn't hurtto jazz it up a little.

I loved Ellen last year. Jon was overall, only okay. It was nice to see Miley Cyrus, Tom Hanks, Forrest Whittacker, Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigl, and Nicole Kidman. At least Tom Cruise wasn't there. The whole bee animation was stupid. 80th Oscars and we're running out of steam. Maybe this is all due to the writer's strike, so for that, I try not to be too harsh, but it is what it is.

I'd give a hand to showing the previous Best Picture Winners, including Brokeback Mountain and Forrest Gump. I wish someone would have given a speech about Heath Ledger. No Hugh Jackman was a disappointment, but he's busy filming, so I won't complain anymore. I'll give a hand to Enchanted not winning and Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for winning Best Original Song for Falling Slowly. Best song in the world. And a last hand to that 11 year old girl that sang too.

Bottom Line: The Oscars this year were not fantastic as I wished, but at least they got all the awards out. Preformances for the singing were my favorite with the showings of all the Best Pictures winners. Maybe next year will be better. Didn't care much for the Oscars this year.

Hollywood's Not America-By Ferras

Rating: Four Stars

A song with a lot of truth. It has meaning, if you look past that it is the new "Bad Day" for American Idol. Ferras has a lot of potential and this is his big break to make something of himself. If he continues on this path, I see a bright future for him. It's an American Idol song though, and look where Daniel Powter is. Not anywhere right now, except with more money. So the future for Ferras could also be rocky.

The Bottom Line: Ferras's first single shows good potential to be a great artist. Worth your money definitely.

Jumper-The Movie

Jumper (Alt. Poster)

Rating: 3 Stars

I saw Jumper last Sunday actually, with my boyfriend. I'll say the special effects were pretty good, the acting was okay, the story line was real weak, but it entertained me to see Hayden Christensian as David Rice and not a Star Wars jedi.

All I have to say is that people either totally hated it, or excepted it as what it was. That's for you to decide which category you fall into. I happened to fall in the except it as it was.

Bottom Line: I say it's definitely worth seeing. If you don't focus too much on the plot. It does have a little plot, but I definitely suggest reading the book after seeing the movie before you say it sucked because so far, the book which is different, but has a lot of similarities, explains many things in the movie.
