"Viva la Vida" by Coldplay

Rating: Four Stars

The newly released single by Coldplay, "Viva la Vida" has a chorus that goes like this:

"I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword, and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word...
But that was when I ruled the world"

*Just a note, I'm not responsible if these part of the lyrics are inccorect...since the CD has not been released yet, I can only check with lyrics websites. I'm sorry if there's any*

Well, the whole song has a lot of meaning. You can think about yesterday and today and see how a lot of it was the same. Even thousands of years ago, while problems might have been more simple, we suffer problems today that branch off of problems like of those many years ago.

The song can teach us something and it's got a catchy tune if you're not looking for something like rock. You know, that's Coldplay for you. A very interesting song off their album that's soon to be released in June, also titled Viva la Vida.

Bottom Line: While you can only get it off iTunes and other MP3 sellers online (perhaps an illegal download which I don't reccomend), it's worth buying unless you're waiting for the CD. I believe purchasing the pre-order of the CD on iTunes will also give you the single and the rest of the CD will download once available.

The Number 23

The Number 23

Rating: 3 Stars

Jim Carrey gives a worthy performance as not being funny in the movie. The plot is three fourths developed and lacks some. The whole story is very interesting and the numerology can be find to toy with. Perhaps some things in the movie could have been developed better and it's not all that worth buying, but renting I do suggest if you'd like to see Carrey do a more serious role.

Bottom Line: Well, the review above was pretty short, but rent it, don't buy. Beware of the blood and sexual scenes.

DVD Rating: 3 Stars

*Spoilers

I Am Legend, movie starring Will Smith, about the "last man on earth". Perhaps he is the last man in New York City, but on earth, no. It's entertaining with the hardships he has to suffer after losing everything so close and dear to him. Very different from the book and possible better because it's more modern.

Will Smith does a wonderful job, and there are small quirky details that you just gotta love like the part when he can recite a whole chunk of the Shrek movie. If the movie had been longer, perhaps plot development could be better.

The alternate ending on the DVD is much more interesting that quickly makes a touching scene and makes Robert Neville come out alive, unlike the original version when he killed himself to save Ethan and Montez. That's what makes the DVD better.

Bottom Line: Worthwhile if you don't mind blood and death. Can be disturbing at times, but there's some meaning behind it like what if something like that happened to us in the future? Perhaps we can learn.

Percy Jackson: The Battle of the Labyrinth

click to add titleThe Battle of the Labyrinth

Rating: Four Stars

*Warning...SPOILERS!

Perhaps it does deserve a better rating, but I was totally holding out for more to happen between Percy and Annabeth. She does kiss Percy, so I guess that will be good enough until the next and final book.

Rick Riordan is able to get his humor and action in, like always. This book is not to disappoint except for the lack of having Percy and Annabeth become more intimate. Other than that, there's nothing you could ask for more about this book. While some things may seem to annoy you, in the end, everything turns out okay. Certain characters and events if you know what I mean.

Bottom Line: It probaly deserves an 8/10, but again like I said, I was so hoping Percy and Annabeth would have more than one kiss. Humor, adventure, and thrill are all here. So in other words, it's definitely worth reading.
